Performance

About us

The Alphorns of Hunterdon is a trio of alphorn players, comprised of Dave, Ben and Russ Thomas. They have played at various festivals in NJ, PA, and DE both as a trio, and with the Philadelphia German Brass Band. Dave has been teaching band in Flemington for that past 20 years at the middle school, and Ben and Russ have recently just started playing with him. Ben, 13, attends the J.P. Case Middle School, and also plays trumpet and hammered dulcimer. Russ, 10, (probably the world's youngest professional alphorn player) attends Fleming Reading Intermediate School, and also plays euphonium and hammered dulcimer. Dave currently teaches at JP Case Middle School (and previously at the Reading Fleming Middle School), where he is the director of bands, including the 7th grade bands, 8th grade bands, and the select Jazz Ensemble. Dave has been playing trombone with various symphonic groups in the Central Jersey area, as well as various jazz ensembles in the Philadelphia and Atlantic City areas for the past 30 years. He also has over 100 publications for brass ensembles that are sold worldwide.

We are available for performing at festivals, concerts, weddings, etc. Please call to discuss possibilities. Also available to perform with the Philadelphia German Brass Band.
